Dec 30, 2000 - Cheney - I fished Cheney Andale beach area, the fish bit for a short time in the morning but after that they slowed to almost nothing. I got a report from Wilson catfish point area and they caught striper, whites and walleye, with a few stripers over 10 lbs. Good Luck Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 29, 2000 - Cheney - Fished Cheney Andale beach area, the fished have moved out a little deeper 10 feet. Caught about 50 whites, one small striper. I saw a 8 and 12 lb. striper caught today and heard of a 24 pounder being caught. Lots of fish caught today by everyone. I also heard about alot of stripers being caught at Wilson in the hell creek area a couple days ago. Good Luck Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 28, 2000 - Cheney - I fished Cheney Andale beach area yesterday, Dec.27 ended up with at least 15 whites and 3 stripers, I released them all. They bit pretty much all day. I fished the same area this morning ended up with only 3 whites. I quit before noon, then went to the Yoder point area and from the fellows I talked to there they had the same results. I got a report today of numbers of whites being taken at Glen Elder, caseway area. Crappie being caught at Milford. That's all I know on those two lakes. I haven't been to Wilson for awhile but I'm sure they are still catching a few up there. Good Luck. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 27, 2000 - Cheney - Just got back from Cheney Lake. I fished the Pretty Prarie Road area in about 12 to 14 feet of water. I brought home 15 whites and 2 stripers that went about 10 lbs. apiece. Had to throw back 4 wipers in the 3 to 4
lb. range. I had so much fun, I'm going back tomorrow!

Dec 27, 2000 - Cheney - Hi Jim, Sorry I haven't heard a word about a walleye that big. We lost a pretty nice one at the hole yesterday but it was no where near a state
record. From the people I have talked to the walleye have been few a far
between. I will ask around. You have a Great New Year. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 26, 2000 - Cheney - Fished Cheney Andale beach area caught about 35 whites and 2 stripers. The bite seemed to be the best in the morning. From 8 til about 11 lots of people were catching fish, after that time it slowed way down! Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 24, 2000 - Cheney - Catching stripers, wipers and white in the andale beach, silverlake road area in 7 to 8 feet of water. I saw alot of whites and stripers caught today, nothing over 8 lbs. but the numbers were there. I did the best today on a 1/4 oz. silver and chartruse kastmaster, fished right on the bottom. Silver and red also seemed to work at times. The ice in this area is 7 inches plus. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 23, 2000 - Clinton - Got a few whites and a half dozen crappie.
Really slow and no pattern found. Ice was 8 inches in open areas and 5
around stumps and under snow cover.

Dec 22, 2000 - Cheney - We fished Cheney today in the fishermens point area. Caught 1 striper about 10 lbs. one small wiper, one keeper walleye. We were fishing in about 10 feet of water. I heard reports that the guys fishing further down the lake in deeper water did better. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 22, 2000 - Hillsdale - Went out to Wades Branch. SKUNKED! Not one fish out on ice.

Dec 22, 2000 - Melvern - We caught a few but only ended up with 9 keepers at the end of the day. Bit on pink really well inside heated dock and outside.

Dec 21, 2000 - Cheney - Back on the ice at Cheney today. I saw several nice stripers, wipers, and a few whites. I also heard of a 20 lb. striper caught yesterday evening in the walleye island area. I heard of some big fish being lost this morning! The fish seemed to bite better this morning, the afternoon fishing was a little slow. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 19, 2000 - Wilson - We fished the catfish point area of Wilson all day today. Ended up with 10 whites, one striper about 5 lbs., lost one nice walleye right at the hole. The fish just didn't seem to be schooled up, just one every now and then. Lots of people on the ice from catfish to gravel hill. Going to try and check on Cheney tomorrow! Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 15, 2000 - Wilson - Ice fished Wilson this afternoon at Catfish Point, The ice there was almost 4 inches with about 1 inch of snow on it. With the next few cold nights unless we get more snow the ice there should continue to thicken. Caught several small stripers 3 to 5 lbs and one 9 lber. good fun on lite tackle. Talked to a fellow who fished the gravel hill, horseshoe bend area this morning and caught his limit of small stripers, white bass and a couple of walleye. Wilson had ice all the way to Minooka point, looks like the season is beginning. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 15, 2000 - Cheney - I joined a few other brave souls ice fishing on cheney yesterday. Caught a few nice whites, no reports of stripers so far. Fished the rubeke creek area the ice was just barely thick enough 2 inches with snow on it. When you would cut a hole the the water would flow up on the ice. The snow needs to melt or blow off so we can get some thick ice with these cold nights. I heard of one fellow going thru at the yoder point area. I don't recommend this lake until the ice gets thicker but it's still early in the year and no amount of fishing fun is worth that COLD swim. BE SAFE!! I'm going to try and check out Wilson today maybe the snow isn't as much of a problem there. Besides I Love to catch those stripers thru the ice, Merry Christmas. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Dec 8, 2000 - Hillsdale - Crappies were fair to good 12-07-2000 on jigs and minnows in 25' + in brush.  Air Temp. 45-50, Water Temp.  40-37, Water was Clear (for Kansas), Skies Sunny, Wind S 10-15 mph.

Dec 8, 2000 - Wilson - I managed to get on the water for awhile yesterday. Temperature is holding at around 40 degrees. Most of the fish and shad I found were holding on the fast breaks just off the river channel between 25 and 40 feet.  I caught several keeper walleye and a couple of small stripers in the Lucas park area, I was fishing live shad but tried my luck at jigging a hopkins 1 oz. spoon with good success. They seemed to hit the spoon better than the bait. I am ready for some ice fishing and with forecast for next week it should start to freeze in the backs of the coves at least. With the striper population in Wilson at this time I am looking forward to some excellent ice fishing there, Cheney should be awesome too, now if mother nature would just give us the ice! Merry Christmas to All. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Nov. 28, 2000 - Council Grove - Just thought I would give you an update on the Crappie @ Council Grove. The lake is down 5 1/2 to 6 feet!! The water temp is 36 to 38 degrees and clarity is 18 to 24 inches. Which is extremely clear for this lake. We have been catching fish anywhere from 14 to 18 feet deep over water 16 to 23
feet. If you can find some brush it is a big help. They are not right in it but they are relating to it. The usual spots for this time of year. There have been several boats a day out so it is not hard to figure out where they are!! Hope this helps you out. oh, I almost forgot, the fish have been ranging from 9 to 15 inches with a good average of 10 to 12 inches.

Thanks for the great web page & information. Tim King

Nov. 28, 2000 - Wilson - My last two trips to wilson has been very slow on stripers as they are scattered and feeding shallow and hard to approach. But the walleye are hitting in just about any area I fish. The larger fish are being caught in the Minooka park and west area but I have caught them as far east as lucas. Most of the larger walleye that I have caught I have been fishing live shad in 32 to 42 feet of water, but they are very receptive to artificial baits also. I caught several keeper, 20 inchers, slabbing a 1/4 ounce kastmater in 30 feet of water. I'm sure that as hungry as these fish have been that , minnows, worms, or whatever your preffered method of fishing is you shouldn't have any problem catching a limit of walleye. Good Luck. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Nov. 25, 2000 - Wilson - Fished Wilson, Nov 24 Minooka park area. Scouted the upper end of wilson for stripers and didn't find many. Caught 1 striper, 2 nice wallye 5 and 7 lbs. one largemouth 5 lbs. and a few whites. Water temp is around 40 degrees and the shad in this area are hanging tight on the breaks 16 to 24 feet. I was breaking in a new motor so I didn't run to the deeper water to see if the stripers had moved that way. It was a nice day with hardly any wind and lots of boats on the water, mostly walleye fishing. My last two trips to wilson has been very slow on stripers as they are scattered and feeding shallow and hard to approach. Nov. 24, 2000 - Fall River - I fished Fall River for crappie weds. and today. Lots of numbers but small fish. The water is so clear. Mike Cook - Four Lake Guides

Nov. 19, 2000 - Wilson - Nov 18 Caught 15 stripers in the Minooka park area up to 7 lbs. Nov 19 caught 4 stripers up to 5 lbs. in the Minooka area. These last few nights of cold temperatures have got the fish moving and hard to locate. I have been fishing with live shad and trying to get enough of those to fish with has been a real chore. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Nov. 10, 2000 - Wilson - Started at first light catching bait and man was it cold. The shad were hard to catch and deep, by the the time I got enough to fish with the nose of my boat could be compared to an ice skating rink! We did manage to catch 13 stripers up to 6 lbs. in the Minooka area fishing 24 to 30 feet. We also caught about a 1/2 dozen whites in the same area! Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Nov. 5, 2000 - Cheney - Fishing the last two days was very slow, could find fish but htey had lock jaw. Twelve feet deep seemed to be the key depth. Friday I caught two wipers, four channel cat and one each 19 incch walleye. Saturday Wayne and I caught five channel cat, one white bass and three walleye. Water temp was 60 degrees. I found birds feeding in the cove west of Refuge but when I got to the end of the cove shad were floating all over and no fish to be found. I guess thebirds trapped the shadin shallow water and had lunch. Later, Midway

Nov. 1-5, 2000 - Wilson - Well striper fishing has slowed way down from the catches of the last month and a 1/2. The stripers that I locate are all scattered and suspended which in my books makes them hard to catch. We did manage to catch 12 stripers up to 7 lbs between Nov. 1-5 but those were very tough to come by. My thoughts are that they are getting ready to put on the winter feed bag and should be hitting good again soon.

For anyone interested Madd Jack will be a guest on a Kansas City Based AM Radio Station, Sports Radio 810 WHB Galyans Great Outdoor Show, on the evening of Nov. 15, 6:00 to 7:00 PM. This is a first for me and I hope I don't mess it up, but it will just be talking striper fishing which is pretty much second nature to me. So tune in if you like!

Oct 27 fished almost 10 hours and only caught 3 small stripers 4 to 5 lbs, the fish certainly had lockjaw that day, Oct 28 caught 13 stripers in 4 hours. One 11 lber., One 9 lber. and two 8's the rest were 4 to 6 lbs. Fishing rocky points and drop-offs in the Lucas park area. Fishing live shad in 28 to 30 feet of water in the State park- Nelson cove area. The weather was rainy and windy but when you hook 37 stripers in one day it doesn't seem to matter. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

October 17, 2000 - Wilson - I took the day off from guiding and fished for fun today with two of my favorite fishing buddies. Despite the fact we spent a lot of the morning trying to get the bigger fish to hit, which they didn't, we still managed to catch 33 stripers up to 7lbs. These fish were caught in the same pattern that I have been catching them for the last 3 weeks, fishing deep water humps in the dam area, 38 to 42 feet deep with live shad. It was a beautiful day, great fishing and good friends, it just don't get any better. Jack Hoskinson Madd Jack Striper Guide

Fished the Nelson Cove area to stay out of the wind, well kind of, Caught 13 stripers with a 9 lber and 2-8 lber's as the largest.
