Current Opportunity -Crappie |
Fair-Good |
0.33-2 lbs |
Action has been spotty, some days a few limits are taken, other days a handful of crappie are caught. Jigs and spoons vertically fished over brushpiles have been most successful. Crappie are still feeding on abundant small gizzard shad. |
|
|
|
This is a generic fishing report/2012 forecast that will be in place during winter. Regular weekly reports will resume in the spring. |
Crappie |
|
|
Similar numbers of adult crappie were sampled in 2010 and 2011, so angling in 2012 should be similar to 2011 which was rated fair. Higher numbers of young crappie were observed in 2011, which should help the population in a couple of years. |
White bass |
|
|
2011 was a banner year for white bass in terms of both numbers and size, 2012 should be even better, assuming fish survive the winter. More and bigger white bass were sampled in 2011 compared to 2010, which should supply excellent fishing in 2012. |
Wiper |
|
|
Wiper catch was double that observed last year. All fish sampled exceeded 18", with the largest fish around 22" long and weighing about 5 lbs. Wiper angling should be good in 2012. |
Channel catfish |
|
|
Good numbers of 1.5-3.5 lb channel catfish were sampled. Few fish exceed 24", but fish in general were in good condition and overal size appeared slightly larger than last year. |
Walleye |
|
|
Low numbers of walleye were sampled, similar to last year, so fishing should be fair. |
Sauger |
|
|
Sauger sample catch was much improved over 2010 levels and should supply fair angling. |
Largemouth bass |
|
|
Catch of largemouth bass was low in 2011, and should supply poor angling. |
Smallmouth bass |
|
|
Fewer numbers of smallmouth bass were sampled in 2011, compared to 2010, but these stocked fish continue to grow with some exceeding 15". Angling for this species should be poor in 2012. |
Rainbow trout |
Good |
0.5-1 lbs |
Lake Henry has received 4 stockings so far. A total of 7 stockings will occur through the season. Most fish have been caught on powerbait, but small spinners, little Cleos, and nightcrawlers have all accounted for fish. |
| General Comments |
Water level Feb. 8 was 1.74' low, release rate = 7 cfs, temperature = 39 F. Feeders are out of feed, feeding will resume next year in May.Be aware there are a lot of Asian Carp in the outlet, these fish are illegal to possess alive. Brushpiles placed into Clinton August 11 and 12, 2008. Channel Catfish |
Fair |
Up to 10 lbs. |
Moderate numbers of channel catfish were captured during fall test netting. The trees in the upper end of the reservoir tend to be popular locations for catfishermen. |
Walleye |
Fair/Good |
Up to 10 lbs. |
Fair number of walleye were captured during fall test netting and some larger fish are available. Jigs fished along the dam during the spawning period or jigs tipped with a nightcrawler fished on the flats during the summer are popular tactics for walleye at Hillsdale. |
Crappie |
Good |
Fish are 9 to 11 inches and few up to 13 inches |
Good numbers of crappie were captured during fall test netting. Jigs fished along rocky areas during the spawning period or minnows fished near the brushpiles are popular tactics for crappie. |
White Bass |
Fair |
Up to 2 lbs. |
Fall test netting indicated moderate numbers of white bass. The white bass population will likely be a supplemental species captured while fishing for crappie. White twistertails fished near points and along the Tontzville causeway are popular locations for white bass. |
Largemouth
Bass |
Fair |
Up to 4 lbs. |
Spring electrofishing indicated a low to moderate abundance of largemouth bass. The largest fish captured during electrofishing was 4 lbs so some larger fish are available. Try using finesse plastics fished in the coves for largemouth bass. |

Black bass |

Smallmouth, largemouth, and spotted bass are all available to anglers in Milford. Smallmouth are most abundant, and provide a trophy opportunity. Largemouth are less abundant, but trophys are also present. Spotted bass are few in numbers, but provide a unique fishery. In combination, these species should provide good angling. |
Catfish |
Good |
up to 50 lbs |
Channel, blue, and flathead catfish are present in Milford. Blue cats provide both a trophy and abundant fishery, while channel cats offer good numbers of smaller fish. Flatheads also provide a trophy fishery of their own, although not as abundant as channels or blues. Together these 3 species offer good fishing to anglers. |
Crappie |
Very Good |
.5-1.5lbs |
Crappie numbers are high in Milford due to excellent spawning and growing conditions the last few years. Although most are smallish, keepers are present. Fishing can be good in Spring and late Fall/Winter when crappie become more concentrated. |
Walleye |
Good |
up to 8 lbs |
Walleye numbers are good in Milford. Many fish will be sub-legal, but there are still keepers available. Fishing along the dam during the spawn, drifting the flats in late Spring/early Summer, and summertime trolling are the most reliable methods. |
White bass |
Fair |
.5-2lbs |
White bass of all sizes are available in Milford, even trophys. Fishing the river and rocks in the Spring, jigging and trolling in early summer, and topwater in the late Summer/early Fall should be most productive. |
Wiper |
Good |
up to 10 lbs |
Wiper of all sizes are also abundant in Milford. In addition to the techniques for white bass listed above, live bait fishing for Wipers can produce real lunkers for those with appropriate tackle. |

Tuttle has a good channel cat population and there is normally good harvest in the Reservoir and the Big Blue River. There is also a low level blue catfish population, which is being supplemented with a new stocking effort. |
Crappie |
Good!! |
1/2 to 1.5 pounds |
Best crappie sample in 16 years. Tuttle is full of 8 to 10 inch fish with good numbers of crappie over 11 inches. |
White Bass |
Fair |
1/2 to 3 pounds |
White bass numbers are on their way up. Fair numbers of 12 to 15 inch fish with a few brutes still around. |
Largemouth Bass |
Fair |
1 to 5 pounds |
Coves in southern third of the Reservoir have some locally good largemouth bass populations. The McIntyre Cove area tends to produce the best fishing. |
Saugeye |
Good |
1 to 5 pounds |
The saugeye population is doing well with over half of the fish from the fall sample over the 15 inch length limit. |
Winter Fishing Opportunities |

Rainbow Trout |
Fair |
1/2 to 3 pounds |
Another stocking of rainbow trout went into Willow Lake on January 23rd. This brings the total to 9,400 trout stocked this season. Anglers have been catching trout on worms, minnows, jigs, and commercial trout baits. The lake was mostly iced over on 01/23/12, but there is some open water around the docks and rock piers. |
Crappie |
Good |
Up to 1.5 pounds |
Anglers are catching some nice crappie off brush piles in 20 to 30 feet of water. Stockdale and Carnahan have been the most productive coves. Chartreuse jigs and minnows have been best. |

This is a generic winter fishing report covering the fishing forecast for the upcoming 2012 fishing season. Regular weekly fishing reports will resume during the month of March. The Winter Fishing Opportunity section of the report will be periodically updated should good information become available. Good Luck!
Winter trout fishing is here at Willow Lake! A trout permit is needed to fish at Willow Lake, which is located in the Southeast corner of the Tuttle Creek River Pond area. Anyone under 16 years of age with a properly licensed adult can harvest up to 2 trout without a trout permit.

This is a generic fishing report/2012 forecast that will be in place until spring. |
Bluegill/redear |
|
|
Catch rates for these two sunfish species were good. Most of the larger fish were 6-8". Both can be expected to supply fair angling in 2012. Right now fish can be caught using mealworms, small spinners and jigs over deepwater structure. |
Channel catfish |
|
|
Catch rate was down a little from 2010, but number observed in 2011 was still high. Channel catfish angling should be good in 2012. |
Largemouth bass |
|
|
High numbers of small bass continue to characterize this fishery. Fishing for bass is rated fair due to lack of size, even though number of bass present is great. Due to high numbers of bass this is a great place to take kids to fish. Bass can be caught on virtually any bait, with many being caught on minnows, worms, small spinners, and jigs. |
Crappie |
|
|
The crappie fishery continues to build. Anglers began to catch some in 2011. As the fishery matures it should get better. Currently, I would rate the fishery fair at best. These fish can be caught off deepwater cover using minnows, spoons and jigs. |

The lake is also noted for channel catfish harvest since the lake receives frequent stockings of harvestable sized catfish from March through September. Perry Reservoir has zebra mussels and with Shawnee State Lake being close it is at high risk. Always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies.

Centralia Lake is a 400 acre lake that is noted for good channel cat, white bass and crappie fishing. The lake facilities include multiple ramps, picnic tables, plenty of camping pads and many sites with electricity. Centralia is enrolled in the CFAP program, which means a City permit is not required for fishing visits. Perry Reservoir has zebra mussels and with Centralia Lake being close it is at high risk. Please, always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies. |

This is a generic fishing report/2012 forecast that will be in place until regular fishing reports resume in the spring. |
Crappie |
|
|
Good numbers of 8-10" crappie were sampled, with low-moderate numbers>10". This fishery should be fair in 2012. During winter these fish can be caught using minnows and jigs in 12-30 feet of water off the dam and channel breaks. |
Bluegill |
|
|
Fair numbers of moderately sized bluegill should supply a fair angling opportunity in 2011. |
Largemouth bass |
|
|
High numbers of bass were sampled in 2011. However, fewer fish over 15" are present than in previous years. This fishery is rated fair. |
Wiper |
|
|
Few wiper were sampled in 2011, consequently the fishing is rated poor. |
Channel catfish |
|
|
Ample numbers of quality fish were collected in 2011 which should supply a good fishery in 2012, |

This scenic lake is noted for largemouth bass fishing along the abundant shoreline weed beds during the spring and summer. Smallmouth bass are also available along the dam and rocky shoreline. Saugeye and crappie can also be taken at this 200 acre lake located in the flint hills. Since this lake is not part of the CFAP Program, annual or day use permits are available at the boat ramp bait house on the northeast shore. Expect to have your boat inspected for invasive species at the ramp. Always clean your boat when moving to different water bodies. |

Bluegill |
Fair |
Up to 8 inches |
Fall test netting indicated a high density bluegill population. Most fish were 6-8 inches in length. Livebait under a bobber fished along shoreline structure can provide good bluegill fishing. |
Channel Catfish |
Fair |
Up to 14 lb. |
Moderate numbers of channel catfish were captured during fall test netting and some larger fish are available to anglers. Stinkbait or worms fished near the fish feeder or along points are popular tactics for catfish at Gardner City Lake. |
Saugeye |
Fair |
Up to 3 lb. |
Fall test netting indicated a low to moderate abundance of saugeye. Try using crankbaits fished along points for saugeye. |
Crappie |
Fair |
Up to 12 inches |
Insufficient numbers of crappie were captured during fall test netting to evaluate the crappie population. Try using jigs or minnows fished near rocky shoreline habitat during the spawn for crappie. |
Largemouth Bass |
Fair |
Up to 4 lbs. |
Spring electrofishing indicated a high density largemouth bass population. It appears the bass population is still suffering the effects of the largemouth bass virus that was detected in 2008 at this location. The population shows some signs of rebound with a few larger fish captured. Try using finesse plastics or spinnerbaits fished around the docks for largemouth bass. |

This is a generic fishing report/2012 forecast that will be in place until regular weekly fishing reports resume. |
Crappie |
|
|
Low numbers of crappie were sampled in 2011. Most of the larger fish measured 8-10". Crappie angling should be fair in 2012. Currently, fish can be caught vertically jigging jigs and spoons over cover. |
Smallmouth bass |
|
|
Lots of juvenile smallmouth bass were sampled, but the larger fish were missed. This fishery has been developing for a number of years, and angling should be fair for this species. |
Largemouth bass |
|
|
Catch rate was low in 2011 and anglers reported difficulty catching fish, so this fishery can only be rated fair. |
Channel catfish |
|
|
Catch rate was a little lower in 2011 than 2010. Decent numbers of fish were in the 16-20" length range. This fishery will be rated fair for 2012. |
Bluegill |
|
|
Lots of 6-8" bluegill were sampled, which should supply a fair fishery in 2012. During winter these fish can be caught over deepwater cover using mealworms, small jigs and spinners. |
Wiper |
|
|
Good numbers of wiper were sampled. All fish exceeded 16", with the largest fish measuring almost 27". Angling for wiper should be good in 2012. |
White bass |
|
|
High numbers of white bass were sampled. Most of the larger fish ranged from 12-14". White bass fishing should be good in 2012 |
Walleye |
|
|
Low numbers of walleye were collected in 2011. All exceeded 17", so quality sized fish are available. Due to low numbers, this fishery can only be rated fair. |
Rainbow trout |
|
1-5 lbs |
Many fish have been caught on powerbait, but small spinners, little Cleos, and small black jigs under a bobber have caught fish as well. |
