Thursday-June
29, 2006 - 2:36 pm - Enjoyed
the last couple days in the store. People are glad to see the
Chatterbaits and Ring Frys and Baby Ring Frys from Lake Fork
Tackle. Bobby, our store manager; my son Ben and I spent some
time last night after closing trying to figure out how to get
more space so we could display more merchandise. When we moved
into our present location from the one across the street, I thought
we would have trouble filling the additional space. Boy was I
wrong. My wife Deb used to always yell at me in the old store
because I had pegboard on everything that didn't move.
Ben has been
helping me in the evenings with the internet side of our business.
He is the one that got our shopping cart up and running almost
six years ago. I just checked to see how long ago it was and
discovered our first customer on the shopping cart was November
30, 2000. It was a woman from Beeville, Tennessee. We were selling
on the internet before that, but with a pretty basic type of
situation. Some day when I have some spare time (like that will
ever happen), I'd like to see how many states and foreign countries
we've shipped to. It's fun talking with people from all over
America and the world. Even though we all speak English, it's
interesting how different that English sounds.
If you happen
to enjoy fly fishing, you might be interested in something we
have on consignment from a customer. It's two complete outfits
with custom made rods. One is a 5 wt custom rod on Cabela's Blank,
Hobbs Creek Reel, 5 wt weight forward line for $100 and the other
is a 2 wt custom rod, reel and 2 wt double taper line for $100.
It won't be
long until the fourth, I hope you all have a good and safe time.
I'll be in the store Monday, but we will close a little early
and then be closed on Tuesday so we can all enjoy ourselves.
Come see us.
Monday-June
26, 2006 - 12:53 pm - The
Chatterbaits have arrived and are ready for purchase.
Saturday-June
24, 2006 - 10:39 am - Received
word yesterday that our order of Chatterbaits is finally on the
way after a wait of several months. This order will have all
of their colors with the exception of one they didn't ship. If
you want to know more about them click here for more information. You can also order them
online and we'll
ship them to you or hold them for you at the store.
Thursday-June
22, 2006 - 10:36 am - Spent
Tuesday and Wednesday doing some moving around of things in the
store to make room for more new merchandise.
After being
out of Lake Fork Ring Frys and Baby Ring Frys, we're stocked
up again. This bait continues to be a producer for anglers and
one of the most popular of the "fry" type baits.
If you're a
tube angler, check out our Gene Larew Floating Fat Tubes.
We received
a shipment including, among other things, three new styles of
Water Gremlin weights customers have been looking for. We have
the entire range of sizes in each of them. One of them is nothing
new, but a style that has gotten harder to fine. That's regular
split shot. You can find removable split shot almost anywhere,
but the standard has disappeared. We used to always stock it,
but our distributor dropped it and we ran out except for the
super small shot used in fly fishing. We also have the two innovations
from Water Gremlin for worm fishing.
Bull Shot is
the Gremlin's unique new BULLet shaped split shot. It's the easy,
effective way to add a little weedless weight to your line. It
works great for finesse fishing or split shottin'. It's easy
to use as their good old Split Shot and weedless as any slip
sinker. Like their Split Shot, Bull Shot is made from squeezable
soft lead and has an S-curved jaw that grips the line without
damage. Squeeze it on with your fingers, pry open with a thumbnail.
No tools or teeth needed.
The other one
is their slender worm weight with the pegging system. With the
Water Gremlin Sinker Stopper, you can peg your Worm Weight snug
to the worm for easy flippin' in and around weeds, lily pads,
stumps, etc. Sinker Stopper fits perfectly to the nose of Water
Gremlin's Low Profile Slip Sinkers so that the entire rig slips
smoothly through weeds and brush without getting tangled.
We've also received
a new style of walleye rigs recently. We have a good selection
of the things walleye anglers need including bottom bouncers,
floating jig heads and rig floats. We also have some Wally Minnows
on sale. Come check us out.
Sunday-June
16, 2006 - 6:14am - Happy
Father's Day, even if you're not one. You probably know someone
who is. Great day at the store yesterday. You can tell summer
is almost officially here. I started seeing customers getting
ready for summer fishing trips. You can tell it because of what
they buy. You know they are headed north for muskie and walleye,
or to other states for trout fishing. I also had a chance to
meet some more people coming in to the store for the first time.
One out of towner told me a friend of his told him he "had"
to come in and look around at our selection. After yesterday,
I'm beginning to understand what people are talking about when
they talk about our selection. Much of what people bought yesterday
was things they don't see everywhere else they go to shop for
tackle.
As the day drew
near an end, I had a chance to talk with someone about grandsons.
His is seven, mine in about 12. They both enjoy fishing with
"papa" and "papa" enjoys fishing with them.
He reminded me of the importance of spending time with your kids
and grandkids. It provides memories that last a lifetime for
you and for them. If you're busy like me, sometimes you need
to be reminded. It doesn't even have to be your own kids or grandkids,
it can be a neighbor or through an organization.
Friday-June
16, 2006 - Father's
Day is right around the corner. It got me to thinking of my dad
and our outdoor adventures. We didn't get to fish together very
much when I was growing up because of the business. We actually
did more hunting together. We did have some good times fishing
together however.
The last time
we went fishing was after Deb and I met. The three of us climbed
into the GMC with his Ranger hitched up and headed for Kingman
County State Lake. We got there and went to one spot and then
another without much success. After a couple hours of this, Deb
finally threw a jab, "If you're such a good fisherman, how
come we aren't catching any?"
He thought about
it a little and then said in a slow reply, "If they ain't
biting, they ain't biting." As I remember, they weren't
biting for the rest of the time we were there. Never the less,
we had a great time. I'm so glad the three of us got to have
some time like that before he died.
One the other
memories is from a winter trip for catfish in a local sandpit.
I'm not sure of want the temperature was, but the wind made it
feel much colder. We started the evening sitting on a log, rods
in hand talking. Before the evening was over, we were laying
behind the log as we tried to shield ourselves from the wind.
We actually caught some fish, but it wasn't pretty.
Most of the
time dad and I spent spent together away from home was in search
of bait to sell. We dug worms, seined crawdads and minnows and
spent nights catching grass frogs on the big ditch. As I drive
around the areas we used to go for bait, the memories are great.
Even though houses fill the fields and the old bridges have been
replaced, I still see it as it was then.
I wouldn't trade
those times for anything. They were great, it was always an adventure
to me. Dad worked his tail off during those years, but he loved
it. I really admire him for that.
Thursday-June
15, 2006 - If you
follow BASS Central Region activities, you will see a link on
our home page about the Central Region Divisional being fished
at Ft. Gibson this week. Kevin Miller of Augusta is the highest
Kansan in the standings after the first day. The leader is the
owner of Gene Larew Tackle. You don't need many hints to know
what he is fishing. The Hoo Daddy helped him capture the top
spot. The Hoo Daddy is one of many fine baits produced by the
Larew Company. It's great to hear of the success. We've been
a Larew dealer since the mid-80s. The company has been bought
and sold several times since the death of the founder, but they
continue to produce top quality baits.
Thursday-June
15, 2006 - Not
too long ago, you may have read an article about the Corker Bow
Tie floats. We sold out after that article, but we have more
in now. I spent the last couple days ordering things. This is
the time of year that many stores start selling down on their
tackle and the selection shrinks so they can make room for fall
sports. Not us. We stock fishing all year and always on the lookout
for the new items as well as being sure we have the things people
need from day to day. I'm in Cottonwood Falls today and tomorrow,
but I will be back in Wichita Saturday. We pulled some more tackle
to transfer to Cottonwood Falls. I'll be putting that up today
and tomorrow. Stop by Saturday and say hi.
Wednesday-June
7, 2006 - We just
received a new supply of jig rattles for those of you that want
to add rattles to your jigs. We also have the scent pods that
many anglers use along with a rattle to add another dimension
to their jig fishing. Bobby, our store manager is taking a day
off today, but Dave Johnson, Ben Zeiner and I will be here to
to take care of whatever you might need.
We saw a number
of first time customers yesterday. It's always interesting to
talk with them and ask about how they found us. Many of them
tell us someone told them about us and they thought they would
check us out. Most will go on to tell us that they are impressed
with our selection. One told me yesterday, "You have what
I need. Where I just was had stuff I saw advertised a lot, but
not what I needed." That makes me happy when I hear comments
like that because it tells me we're doing our job.
Father's Day
is not too far off. If someone askes you what you want, suggest
a gift certificate. We even make it easy for your gift buyers.
They can order
online if they
want to. Another idea would be to suggest a day trip to Cottonwood
Falls and a visit to our store there. It's the Cottonwood Mercantile, located just across the street
from the historic Chase County Courthouse. It's not a tackle
store (although we do have some tackle there), but it has a lot
of fun things and the town is a great place to visit. Father's
Day is the third Sunday of this month. On the third Sunday of
the month, motorcycle riders come to town to eat breakfast at
the Emma
Chase Cafe. So
if you like to look at bikes, you might want to consider coming
early for breakfast. They have a great buffet line set up on
those days. You could eat breakfast there, then you could drive
out west of town a couple miles and check out Chase County State
Fishing Lake, maybe even do a little fishing. Then come back
into town and stop by the store and say hi. At noon, the Courthouse
is available for tours from noon until four. This is a must see
building. It's the oldest operating courthouse in the state.
It opened in the early 1870s.
Thursday-June
1, 2006 - Where
has the week gone? The last two days in the store saw us accomplish
some things we've been wanting to do for a while. It's the kind
of things you "need to do" but never get around to.
Kind of like cleaning the garage. My son Ben has been helping
do some of those things I just never quite get around to. He
spent much of yesterday getting more of our merchandise on our
shopping cart. He is the one that got us online with it in the
first place. Internet sales have helped replace sales I know
we've lost to the internet. One of the interesting observations
I've made is that we sell very little over the internet to people
in Kansas compared to people from other parts of the country.
We sometimes have things on special on the internet that we don't
have in the store. We will honor any of our internet specials
in the store however. Just print out the page so our store staff
will know about it.
I'm back in
Cottonwood Falls until the first of next week. This weekend is
the Flint Hills Rodeo. It's the oldest consecutive rodeo in the state
of Kansas. This year is the 69th. If you like rodeo and cowboys,
come to Chase County this weekend. Bring your fishing stuff and
try Chase County State Lake while you're up here. We are also close to Council
Grove City Lake and Reservoir.
Sunday-May
28, 2006 - We were
much busier yesterday than I expected to be. Our store tends
to be a store people go to when they are preparing to go fishing
instead of actually on the way to the fishing hole. The Saturday
before a holiday can tend be a slow one. That wasn't the case
yesterday. I enjoyed seeing a number of our regular customers
and chatting with them. Their take on the new stores in town
is interesting. Many seem to agree that the new store are nice,
but basically all alike in terms of the merchandise they handle.
They tell me they like to come into our store because we have
things the others don't have.
It's also interesting
to hear someone say something like, "I've been all over
town and couldn't find this" as they place their purchase
on the counter. I normally don't say it, but I usually think
to myself, "Why didn't you come here first?" I'm just
glad they made it here.
I hope you have
been having a good Memorial Day weekend and it's been a safe
one for you.
Saturday-May
27, 2006 - We will
be open regular hours today, but we will be closed Sunday as
usual and also on Monday so we can all catch our breath and spend
some time with family. I'll be in the store all day today. If
I have time, I'll be getting more tackle to take to Cottonwood
Falls to our store there. Will also be working on some special
orders for customers. Stop by and say hi and pick up the fishing
supplies you need for this weekend.
Thursday-May
25, 2006 - As Memorial
Day draws closer, more tackle is arriving. Among other things,
we just received our order of Owner All Purpose hooks in the
large sizes we've been out of. We also have the full color selection
of both sizes of Sparkle Tail lures. Better hurry though, these
are hard to find. When Sparkle Tail users discovers them, they
tend to buy in larger quantities. We've also received more of
the popular camoflauge line from Cortland Line. We have it in
sizes ranging from two-pound to 30-pound test.
Monday-May
22, 2006 - We are
still waiting on our order of chatterbaits, I'm not optimistic
we will receive them very soon. If we don't get them soon, I
will probably cancel the order since there are so many alternatives
available. I'll be in the store today and tomorrow, then head
back to Cottonwood Falls for Wednesday and Thursday. I'll be
back in the store Saturday and possibly Friday. We're starting
to see more anglers in Cottonwood Mercantile, our store in Cottonwood
Falls. We don't have a lot of tackle there yet, but we're working
on it. A customer from Hutchinson stopped by last week to say
hi. He had been in Emporia and was headed back home. Stop by
and say hi whenever you are in the area. Watch this spot and
our specials page as we start closing out some our our items
to make room for more new merchandise.
Thursday-May
18, 2006 - I don't
know where the first half of the week went. Monday I stayed in
Cottonwood Falls since I'm on the City Council and we had a meeting
in the evening. Tuesday and Wednesday I was in the Bass Shop.
The early part of the week is always busy with internet orders.
Seems most people do their internet shopping over the weekend.
We don't have our complete inventory online, but we do have much
of it and will be adding to it through this year. We've been
seeing our internet business mirrow our store business as people
search for things they can't find everywhere. We've always concentrated
on trying to have what people need and want instead of just focusing
on what is being advertised and promoted heavily like most of
the "spit and polish" stores do.
Saturday-May
13, 2006 - One
of the things I like least about life is learning that one of
the great friends you've made has passed away. That's what happened
today when I received a phone call to ask me if I'd heard that
Stan Griffith had passed away. He was in not all that long ago
and we talked a while and I called Deb while he was here so she
could talk to him. She always enjoyed talking with him when he
was in the store. We've lost a number of friends over that past
several years, it really sucks getting older. Not much alternative
to getting older however. You just have to live with it.
Tomorrow is
Mother's Day. It reminds me of back in the late 50s down at our
old store. Dad had a rose bush that usually had plenty of roses
on Mother's Day and he would cut them and give them to all the
mothers that came in that Sunday. Today he would probably be
sued by some guy for descrimination like the lawsuit I heard
about on the radio the other day. Some guy filed a class action
lawsuit because of a ladies day promotion some team did. He felt
discriminated against. Poor guy.
Guess I better
get busy and finish my orders I'm working on so I'm not late
getting away. I'm supposed to meet Deb for dinner at the Hitchin'
Post in Matfield Green on my way back to Cottonwood Falls tonight.
An early Mother's Day dinner you know.
One last thing.
I had an email asking if we were still doing our ZIP Club customer
loyalty program. We are, but we're not very good about remembering
to remind people to use it. If you're a member, be sure to remind
us next time you're in.
Thursday-May
11, 2006 - I've
been in Cottonwood Falls at our Cottonwood Mercantile store yesterday
and today. Looking forward to getting back to the Wichita store
Friday and Saturday. Memorial Day is not far away. Avoid the
last minute rush by coming in and getting ready for it early.
We will be closed on Memorial Day, but we will be open the Saturday
before and then open again the day after.
Monday-May
8, 2006 - Wild
day for the first day of the week filling internet orders and
hearing stories about weekend fishing trips. More and more people
are discovering us on the internet as they look for things they
can't find. The internet has certainly made the world smaller.
If you're looking for something that's hard to find, give us
a try. If we don't have it, we'll do our best to find it for
you. If you're talking fishing to someone, be sure to spread
the word about our store. We aren't the biggest, newest, or most
fancy. We are the oldest. We've been doing this since 1953 and
we have fun doing it. Come in and check us out.
Monday-May
1, 2006 - Nhan
Trinh of Goddard was the winner of the free striper trip on Lake
Wilson with Madd Jack. We forgot to draw Saturday at closing,
so we had one of our first customers this morning draw for the
winner. This weekend marked the start of another new player in
the fishing tackle business in Wichita with the opening of Sportsman's
Warehouse. That makes the third new store trying to sell Wichita
area anglers tackle. We welcome the competition as we have with
the other new comers. I know you will want to check them out,
but I hope you remember the Zeiner family has been serving anglers
since 1953 and we always do our best to have what you want or
to get it for you. I appreciate the loyal customers we have and
hope you will tell others about us and encourage them to come
in and check us out. We're not the biggest or the most fancy
store, but we always try to do our best to have those hard to
find items for you and we are always open for suggestions on
how we can improve. One last thing, if you haven't visited our
other site, Kansas
Angler Online, check
it out today for fishing reports not only for Kansas, but also
for Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.
We been doing it since the late 90s as a service for you.
Saturday-April
29, 2006 - This
is your last day to get in and register for the free striper
trip on Lake Wilson with Madd
Jack. We will draw
today at 5:00. With the rain and cooler weather, we've had a
number of anglers in to get supplies for making thier own lures
and fly tying. If you've never made your own lures, you might
want to think about it. Maybe you don't want to make lures, but
how about replacing the skirts on your spinner baits or buzz
baits. We also have replacement skirts for Hula Poppers.
Thursday-April
27, 2006 - The
St. Croix rep visited us today and authorized our store manager
Bobby Giesy to discount some St. Croix rods we carried over from
last year. We will be discounting them 20%. As soon as he has
a chance to make a list of them, we will post them on our specials page. I you enjoy fly fishing, be sure
to check our Fly
Fishing Reports
page. We post regular reports from Missouri and Arkansas. For
flying fishing reports from Colorado, check out the Colorado
fishing reports
on the Kansas Angler Online.
Wednesday-April
26, 2006 - Sounds
as though the early season walleye patterns have chanced and
anglers are starting to fish deeper. Another trout season is
just a memory now. Crappie continue to be popular for many of
our customers. One of our hot "old baits" is the Mad
Man craws. These were a hot lure several years ago and then kind
of faded from popularity. We had a bunch of them that occupied
space for a while and then out of state anglers started calling
and ordering over our shopping cart until we ran out. Recently we found some more of
them and hung them up and put them back online. Right now we
have a pretty good selection, but they are going fast. Just got
an order from South Carolina yesterday from an anxious angler.
He was excited to find them. If you want some, you better get
in while we still have a good selection. Don't forget to get
in and sign up for the free striper trip on Lake Wilson with
Madd Jack. We will draw Saturday at 5:00.
Friday-April
21, 2006 - Another
busy week as more new merchandise arrives. We just received an
order of Booyah buzz baits and spinner baits. We have the tux
and tails as well as the four-bladed spinner bait. Someone made
an interesting observation the other day while the conversation
was about lures. Some people come in and want to know what the
new baits are. Others come in a head for the old standbys. We
do our best to have both types of lures. I would guess we probably
have the best selection of the "old standbys" in the
area. Many of those lures are still made but are hard to find
because most "big box" stores tend to stock lures that
manufacturers advertise in order to drive the sales. Independent
dealers like us rely on distributors for much of our merchandise.
Many of the distributors use the same criteria as the big box
stores when they make their decisions about what to stock. As
a result, some of the old lures, even though they are still made,
are hard to find. If you're looking for lures like that, give
us a try. If we don't have them, we will do our best to find
them for you.
Monday-April
17, 2006 - What
do you think about those temperatures. Guess we're paying the
price for having spring during January and February. We just
received another order of grubs and shad bodies from Mr. Twister
and some new spinner baits from Booyah. Come in and check them
out.
Thursday-April
13, 2006 - What
a week this has been so far. Merchandise continues to roll in.
Crappie and walleye fishing continue to be what a lot of our
customers are doing. Had a group in yesterday headed for Texoma
and striper fishing. Remember to come in and register for the
free guided trip with Madd Jack striper fishing at Lake Wilson.
We will draw for a winner Saturday, April 29 at 5:00.
Monday-April
10, 2006 - Our
store manager, Bobby Giesy, reports that his son went to Watson
Park Saturday evening to do some catfishing. Before leaving he
checked the solar tables from Bill Scheffler's book and saw that
the peak time was 9:00 that evening. He got there before that
and didn't have much action. When he got his first fish he looked
at his cell phone and saw that it was at 8:59. He was fishing
with Sonny's dip bait and night crawlers. Best results was on
the Sonny's.
Bobby also went
crappie fishing Sunday with one of our customers. They had really
good results on pink jigheads with blue and white tube bodies
fishing brush piles. Bobby's first fish was a black bass around
two pounds on a pearl Bass Pro Crappie Beaver he had used Spike-It
dye on. He had a chartreuse tail with grape body color combination.
He and our customers have been having fun using the dip dye to
come up with all kinds of combinations. If you've never done
that, stop by and see a demonstration.
If you're out
running around next weekend and you're in the Cottonwood Falls
area, stop by Cottonwood Mercantile and see me and check out
the carvings of fish and birds by Gary Cooper. We have one of
his fish carvings in the Bass Shop, but it's not for sale. The
items in Cottonwood Falls are for sale. He is one of the better
known nationally wood carvers of birds and fish. His work has
been purchased from people all over the country. The first George
Bush even has some of his work. He can also make a carved replica
of your trophy sized fish. Check with us if you're interested.
I hope to have photographs of some of his work on our website
in the near future.
Friday-April
7, 2006 - Yesterday
I talked about the Chatterbait craze going on right now. It's
pretty amazing how a bait produced by someone other than a large
company can get so much buzz. It also shows that the American
dream is still alive and well. If you are someone that likes
to make lures (like many of our customers do), you might be interested
in The Complete Book of Tackle Making.
It is like the bible of
tackle making with chapters on most anything you might be interested
in doing. Maybe you want to replace an eye on a rod or maybe
even build a rod. You can see how to do it. Maybe you want to
make a mold for a soft plastic bait. You can see how to do it.
Through the years, this has been the most popular book we have.
We just received another shipment of it yesterday. As a matter
of fact, we are shipping one to a customer in New Zealand today.
Come in and
look at it. Maybe you will want to add it to your library. It's
one of the best $19.95 investments you will ever make.
Thursday-April
6, 2006 - The weekend
is just around the corner. I hope the weather cooperates and
you will have a chance to get out and do some fishing. We need
some more rain to help jumpstart some of the fishing and replace
water in a number of the ponds, lakes and reservoirs. We can't
do anything about the weather at Zeiner's Bass Shop, but we can
help you get ready for your fishing. For those of you looking
for Chatterbaits, we have some on order but have no idea when
we might receive some. They remind me of the old Lazy Ike Wiggly
Crawer with a little bit of a twist. It uses a flexible blade
instead of fixed blade attached to the jig head and a skirt instead
of a worm. We had a customer yesterday that bought one off eBay
for about $30. Makes me think of when the Rapala first hit the
states and bait shops on the lakes were renting them instead
of selling them.
Anglers are
a funny lot. We are always looking for that lure that's going
to do the job for us. I tend to be a bit more skeptical than
most. Being in the right place at the right time seems to be
what works best for me at times.
Wednesday-April
5, 2006 - We just
received an order of the 12' Diawa Spinning rods that people
have been looking for. Took a little longer than I thought it
would, but there are here at last. More new merchandise arrived
today. One of the new items is the Rapala X-Rap. We have them
is two sizes and six colors. Rember to stop by and see us and
sign up for the free guided striper trip with Madd Jack on Lake
Wilson. If you want fishing reports, be sure to visit our Kansas
Angler Online site.
Check out our
shopping cart by clicking here. Visit it often. We will be working to get more
items on the cart as we go through the spring and summer.
Tuesday-April
4, 2006 - We just
received some Quantum Plazma 8-ball bearing spinning reels in
four sizes. You can pick up one of these reels for $39.99. Walleye
continued to be the hot pursuit fish for many of our customers
yesterday. We've also been seeing a bunch of anglers getting
ready for snagging. Lack of moisture has hurt Kansas snagging,
but people are headed for Missouri and Oklahoma. We're starting
to round up some odds and ends of lures we won't be ordering
again and putting them on closeout pricing. Shad gizzards continue
to be the hot bait for catfish. We just received another shipment
of them along with more night crawlers.
Saturday-April
1, 2006 - What
a beautiful drive to Wichita from Cottonwood Falls this morning.
I saw several people with boats headed out for a day of fishing.
Wish I was one of them. Even more, I wish the weather had been
like this when Deb and I went to Lake Fork a couple weeks ago
to fish. We had rain all the way down that Sunday and then cold
weather and wind on Monday and Tuesday when we fished. We wimped
out Tuesday morning and went to visit the folks at Yamamoto and
Lake Fork Tackle. We're starting a drawing today for a free guided
striper trip with Madd Jack at Lake Wilson. The drawing will
be held at the close of busines on Saturday, April 29. Come on
in and register. No purchase is required.
Friday-March
31, 2006 - Would
you believe March is over? Pretty busy day at the store yesterday.
More merchandise arriving and people getting ready for spring
fishing. We've been expanding our Rapala selection to give walleye
anglers even more to choose from in early season fishing. Come
in and check it out. We've also made a special buy on a four
ball bearing Quantum reel and we're passing the savings on to
you. Come in and check it out. For only $49.99, you can pair
it up with a nice quality rod and have a great new rod and reel.
Many of our regular in-store customers don't realize we also
sell over the internet. Internet sales kept us busy yesterday
also. We ship all over the country. All over the world actually.
Yesterday we sent an order to New Zealand and earlier this week
we send an order to Great Brittan. Sometimes we run internet
specials. We will honor those prices in the store if you mention
you saw it on the internet. It would help if you printed out
the page with the price and brought it with you because store
personnel may not be aware of all the specials on the internet.
Check out our shopping cart by clicking
here. Visit it
often. We will be working to get more items on the cart as we
go through the spring and summer.
I'm at our store
(Cottonwood Mercantile) in Cottonwood Falls today, but I'll be
back in Wichita tomorrow. If you need to order anything out of
the Bass Pro catalog, call or come in before 5:00 Saturday and
it will be in the store for you to pick up Tuesday or Wednesday.
Remember, any orders from the catalog are same price as catalog
and have no shipping or handling charges. If you live closer
to Cottonwood Falls, you can order and pick up there also. That
store is open Wednesday thru Sunday. The Wichita store is open
Monday thru Saturday.
Get out and
go fishing this weekend.
Thursday-March
30, 2006 - We received
a new order of Yamamoto baits yesterday. We're in good shape
on these again. We also have a special on some Cordell walleye
baits. The regular price is $4.69 and we've knocked a dollar
off until April 15. Get in now while the selection is good. Another
bait we are excited about is the Secret Weapon spinner baits
and buzz baits. The spinner bait has interchangable blades. With
one bait, you can have a single, double, triple (you get the
idea) bladed bait. The buzz bait has a willowleaf blade behind
the buzz blade which lets it be fished like a drop bait as well
as a buzz bait. Watch this page for an announcement of a new
prize drawing that will start April 1 and run through the month.
You won't want to miss out on it.
Enough for now,
come back daily and visit me. If you have any questions or requests,
let
me know. One last
thing, I'm wondering if any of you would be interested in a free
classified ad page being added to our site so you can buy and
sell used fishing equipment, boats, etc. If you are and have
something to start it with, send it to me and I'll start one.
If it's a big item and you have a photo, send it along. This
could also be used for items you want. As an example, if you're
looking for a boat.
Wednesday-March
29, 2006 - In an
effort to make it easier for visitors to zeiners.com to know
what's new at Zeiner's Bass Shop, I've decided to try to do a
daily (or almost daily) update with the news of the day. I don't
know what will develop with this, but what I hope to do is to
give you a chance to "hang out" at Zeiner's, even if
it's just from your computer. I would invite you to come to the
store anytime to talk fishing.
Today, I thought
I would just start with an overview of what's been going on over
the winter and what we've been doing to get ready for spring.
I've been in
the store most of the time since the end of November and have
really enjoyed it. In January, Bobby Giesy started working part
time for us and has since moved to full time. He is now our manager
and will be handling the daily business of the store. Long time
part timer Dave Johnson is working Fridays and some Saturdays.
If you're into fly fishing and fly tying, stop by on Fridays
and see him.
During the winter,
we've done a great deal of rearranging and adding of merchandise.
New items are still arriving and being added to our merchandise
mix so you have even more to choose from as you add tools to
your arsenal of fishing equipment and supplies.
One of the exciting
new items is St. Croix's new Triumph series of rods. They
picked their top selling actions and lengths in their other lines
and created a new entry level rod in hopes of getting more anglers
to try St. Croix rods. The new Triumph is an imported rod made
to their strick specifications and carries a five-year warranty.
The price is amazing, $60 and $70, depending on the length and
action. They've also added a new fly rod series between the Premiere
and Avid. Come in and check out the Reign.
The last couple
months have seen much of our activity be in the lure making area.
We have the best selection of lure making supplies in the state,
bar none. We just received a shipment of Spike-It dyes in a number
of colors and we also have J.J.'s Magic dip dyes.
J.J.'s is interesting
in their approach. The have the three primary colors, all of
which are good colors in their own right, but you can create
other colors by mixing them. They are garlic scented and believe
me, the scent is strong and long lasting. They also have a clear
dip so you can give your baits a strong garlic scent without
changing the color. Here's a warning though, don't use them on
the 3X baits (super stretch) because it will desolve them. It
was developed for conventional plastic baits and literally permeates
the lure.
