      Hays Bass Anglers Association
to sponsor Eighth Annual Big Bass Challenge July 19
May 3, 2008 - Over the past 7 years Hays Bass Anglers
Association (HBAA) has been instrumental in hosting the Big Bass
Challenge. Cedar Bluff has been the home of this major bass tournament.
With the help from HBAA members and the Cedar Bluff State Park
personal, this tournament has continued to be one of the best
      tournaments in the state.
This tournament has consistently brought several
anglers from surrounding states including Nebraska, Colorado,
Missouri, and Oklahoma. All anglers come from far and wide to
become the Big Bass Challenge Champions for the year. After all
expenses are paid, and a big thanks to all the anglers who participate,
HBAA is able to contribute to a Fort Hays State College Scholarship
fund. The scholarship is given to a worthy student who's major
      is in Biology.
The Big Bass Challenge tournament is set up to
give everyone a good chance to win money. Every hour is a tournament.
Starting at safelight or at the discretion of the Challenge committee,
the anglers set out to find the largest bass of the day. During
the hour there will be radio announcements of the fish that have
been brought to the scales. Close to the end of that hour, several
teams will be speeding across the lake to get their bass in before
the end of that hour. There will be eight hours of fishing.
Official weigh-in will be at Cove One (North) boat
ramp. One legal black bass with I.D. per boat can be weighed-in
each hour. The other partner is to stay with the boat for livewell
check. Only 2 black bass are allowed in the livewell at any time
during the day. Except the last hour (2 to 3pm), only one bass
is allowed in the livewell Fish must be in the bag at the top
of the hour to count for previous hour weigh-in. NO DEAD FISH
      WILL BE ALLOWED!
Prizes and awards will be given for the three largest
bass weighed in each hour of the tournament. A grand prize will
be awarded for each of the three largest bass weighed in for
the entire tournament. Only one grand prize will be awarded per
team. After winners of hourly cash prizes and overall prizes
are verified, the ceremonies will start at weigh-in site. A barbecue
will follow after the tournament for all contestants.
      Visit their web
      site for entry blank.
