      Kansan releases video on how
to fish the top ten bass lures after doing extensive research
      with over 50 pro anglers
       March
16, 2009 - Kansan Troy Showalter enjoys bass fishing and
he's adept at research. When he wanted to learn more about bass
fishing and improve his skills he found it difficult to find
the time to do that. He took the expression "It's not what
you know, it's who you know" to a new level. A friend of
his that has some good connections helped him contact dozens
of pros in the Bassmaster Elite Series and FLW tour.
While all this was going on, Showalter started
a company called Pro Fishing Research. His goal was to make it
quicker and easier for people like himself to gain the knowledge
and skills that could make them better anglers.
According to Showalter, "Pro Fishing Research
was created to help amateur anglers make better purchasing decisions,
help vendors make better product decisions, and help pro anglers
in our network obtain value from their experience and expertise.
Our mission is to collect objective, unbiased information from
pro bass fishermen and bring that insight down to amateur anglers
in a time efficient and easy to consume manner to help them make
better purchasing decisions and get better value with the time
and money they spend on fishing."
Shortly after the first of the year, he launched
a website that contains the results of his 2008 survey. To help
cover the cost of the survey and website, Showalter is producing
a DVD to sell. Actually, if things work out, he will have a series
      of DVDs..
His first one features Ken Cook, Jeff Criet, Mike
McClelland, Jimmy Houston and Randy Howell helping people learn
how to use the Top Ten lures from the survey.
It was viewed recently by two staffers from Zeiner's
Angler Supply in Wichita. Both felt it was very informative and worth
the $19.95 for the two hours worth of tips on how to rig, cast
and fish the baits that catch bass pretty much everywhere.
We all know professional anglers are sponsored
by lure companies and we've all see videos that were more infomercial
than informative. That's not the case with this video. Some of
the anglers are sponsored by the companies that produce the baits,
it's hard to not have that happen. But much of the video is not
that way. An example would be with the number one lure in the
survey. The Pointer 100 was the top lure lure according to the
survey, but there is not Lucky Craft pro appearing in the video.
The five pros featured in the video were compensated
for their services. Showalter said some anglers expressed interest
in being identified as part of the network, but he won't divulge
the full roster for fear that some could suffer damage in their
relationships with sponsors (that might occur if the sponsors'
products don't fare well in the survey).
The video is available at Zeiner's Angler Supply in
Wichita or through their shopping cart by clicking
      here.
You can check out the results of Showalter's research
      by going to his website.
