      KANSAS DEER-VEHICLE COLLISIONS
      PEAK IN NOVEMBER
2005 stats reveal lowest number since 1995
      October 26, 2006 - PRATT -- In Kansas, deer-vehicle
accidents are common in November. Kansas Department of Transportation
(KDOT) statistics show that November is the month when the highest
number of deer-vehicle collisions occur. Motorists are encouraged
to be on particularly high alert about Nov. 17 -- historically
the day deer-vehicle collisions peak. One of the main reasons
there is a greater potential for deer-vehicle accidents in November
is the deer mating season. Deer are particularly active in the
fall, with the peak mating season, called "rut," occurring
      in mid-November. Complete Story

May 25, 2006 -PRATT -- As table fare, walleye
are at the top of most anglers' lists. They are not only tasty,
but they grow large enough that a few fish can provide a family
meal. (The state record walleye is more than 13 pounds.) And
right now, as the water -- and the air -- warms up, is the best
time to catch them. Walleye move over shallow points, flats,
and underwater roadbeds to feed in May and early June. While
fishing from a boat is the preferred method, walleye can be caught
at this time by wading. Look for fish in water 3 to 15 feet deep.

anglers, this is their favorite time of year, when crappie move

      Possible world record bass won't
      be submitted
March 22, 2006 - Most anglers have heard
about the possible world record bass recently caught in California.
It was caught, weighed on uncertified scales, photographed and
then released. The angler that caught it has decided not to try
to register it as a record catch "because of the controversy"
surrounding the catch. If you haven't been following the coverage

March 16, 2006 - PRATT -- The Kansas paddlefish season begins
March 15 and runs through May 15, but anglers may not have much

      New product lets anglers convert

      Mike Cook
      Four Lake Guides
There is a new product out that some of you ice
fishermen just have to have. I was lucky enough to try one when
we had ice on Cheney that one Saturday the first part of December.
I had my most enjoyable ice trip ever, even though the fishing
was tough. OK, OK enough with the suspence. The product is called
the easy auger and you can only get it from Zeiner's Angler Supply.
I was skeptic at first to tell you the truth. But this product
is the coolest thing since the carolina rig. It is an adapter
that connects your hand auger to your cordless drill motor. I
drilled 20 holes through 4 inches of ice and zipped right through
it like it was butter. I noticed no drain in my drill motor battery
even after the last hole. Read
