Fahler and Sprague win Neewallow Classic
Submitted by Ed Hampton - The 2nd ANNUAL NEEWALLOH
Classic on Big Hill is in the books. We had 10 boats this year
which doubled our entries from 1998. Hopefully we can double
again in 2000 or do even better. Thanks to all the participants
who traveled from all over the state (Wichita, Burlington,Parsons,
            even Oklahoma!).
The fishing was tough! All teams reported catching fish, but
the size for most was small (results to follow). We had some
pretty good door prizes presented thanks to our sponsors 7up
of Kansas, Kmart, Indpendence Overhead Door, Defever-Osburn Drug,
Johns Kitchen and Pub, Ortegas Restaurant, Budweiser, and Kelley
            Electric.
Ten percent of each entry is held back to help the S.E.K.
Hawghunters conduct events through the year 2000. These events
include the Big Hill Fishing Derby for kids 15 and under and
the Casting Kids competetions held in Independence each year.
A special thanks goes out to all who help put on the tournament...

            1999 Season Wrapup
            Submitted by Ed Hampton
The SEK Hawghunters out of Independence, KS has just completed
one of its most successful years. Congratulations to Brian Fahler
on winning angler of the year with 103.11 lbs, John Stewart was
second with 74.39, and Ed Hampton was third with 70.66. Congratulations
also to Raymond Webb who won the non-boater title with 51.88
lbs. This year we fished Stockton, Big Hill, Wilson County, Grand,
and Hudson. Our tournament on Wilson County was a Megabass style
tournament that we divided the lake into sections and were only
allowed to fish each section for a specified time and a "big
bass" pot was paid out for each session.
This year we also sponsored a casting kids competition at
Orschelns in Independence with 25 kids giving it their all. One
of the most enjoyable things we do annually is conduct a "Kids
Fishing Derby" at Big Hill, this year we had over 50 kids
in competition. Each kid takes home a "tackle pack"
and a door prize ranging from tickets to Kansas City Royals games
to rods and reels. We also feed hot dogs, chips, and pop to all
            participants and their parents.
Currently the club is gearing up for the Club classic scheduled
on Skiatook Lake, the "Neewalloh Classic" an annual
event that is a unique buddy/draw format designed to allow "paper"
fishing on Big Hill, and are making preparations to appear in
            the Neewalloh parade in Independence.
Our 2000 schedule is still in the works but looks like we
might be fishing Stockton, Grand, Big Hill, Wilson County (megabass),
and Bone Creek. Membership is open to anyone so come join us
for the 2000 season. Contact Adam Watts 316-331-7863 or Ed Hampton

            May 2, 1999 - Big Hill
Submitted by Ed Hampton - Tournament Results for Sunday
            May 2nd, Big Hill Lake
            1st place- Brian Fahler 13.11lbs
            2nd place- Harry Averill 11.39lbs
            3rd place- Ed Hampton 11.12lbs
            Sound tough!!!
For those that fished Big Hill Saturday and returned on Sunday,
            we all
found out how drastically a lake can change in one day!!!!! Lots
            of big
fish Saturday from one end of the lake to the other...Sunday
you were lucky to find a bite!!!
Most of our fish were taken on spider jigs Sunday but you had
            to really
stay on your toes because the bite was really quick..most of
the fish Harry (my non-boater) and I caught were on the main
lake, while Brians came from upriver in the mud.
            April 3, 1999 - Big Hill
Submitted by Ed Hampton - The SEK Hawghunters held
their second tournament of the year April 3rd at Big Hill Lake.
This was the second tournament weekend in a row for Big Hill
and did it ever produce. Last weekend the Cherryvale bassmasters
tournament took 22 lbs to win, the third it took 18. Both of
these clubs "paper" fish and I guarentee the weighins
on paper were alot lighter than the actual weights. The Hawghunters
            had 5 fish measuring over 20", 6 over 19", and 4 limits
            out of 6 boats.
Results of the SEK Hawghunters April 3rd tournament on Big
            Hill:
            1st- Jon Stewart, 18.97lbs, 5 fish
            2nd- Ed Hampton, 16.47lbs, 4 fish & big bass 5.88lbs
            3rd- Raymond Webb, 12.65, 5 fish
            4th- Boyd Thiele, 9.11, 5 fish
Almost everyone reported that if you found an area holding
fish their were alot of fish in that area, most of the fish caught
            by the first place
finisher came in a small area in the creek, while most of the
            fish of the
second place finisher came in a 50yd area mid lake.
The lake is fighting trying to warm up with main lake temps
around 50 and creek areas can be found as high 68. Water conditions
vary from clear in the main lake to muddy in the creek, but the
lake is down around 4 ft. and it looks like a different lake
with water levels as low as they are (be careful!!).
Just a little side note, the crappie are hitting big time
            but at night!!
Three boats took a reported 100 fish each after midnight over
the weekend but nobody could find them during the day?? Also,
Big Hills white bass population has really taken off, they are
all over crankbaits in areas north of the bridge, believe me,
we caught 9 out of one area during the bass tournament, most
in the 3/4 to 1 lb range with 1 over 2lbs.
            March 7, 1999 - Stockton
Submitted by Ed Hampton - The SEK Hawghunters held
their first tournament on Stockton Lake March 7th. Conditions
were about as lousy as it can get, waters temps dropping from
the mid 50's earlier in the week to 45-47 during the tournament.
Mother nature didn't want to cooperate as she hit us with 20+
mph winds, cloudy with occassional period of rain.
BUT...the fishing really wasn't that bad....no hawgs, but
            almost everyone
            brought in fish.
First and Second place were taken using white spinnerbaits
on windy bluffs, third and fourth were taken using slow moving
crankbaits on non-windy bluffs. Everyone was really surprised
at the lack of a Rogue bite.
First Place- Jon Stewart 10.97 lbs
            Second- Mark Moody 10.28 lbs
            Third- Ed Hampton 9.48 lbs.
            Fourth- Raymond Webb 7.21 lbs
            Back to SEK Hawghunters
