What our customers
are saying...
June 6, 2000 - Winfield City Lake -
Catfish tournament produced a number of fish. A channelcat over
20 pounds was weighed in.
June 6, 2000 - Cheney - Channel cat
caught over weekend.
April 22, 2000 - Cheney - Tried Cheney
again for channel cat and crappie in coves. Caught one Channel
cat and no crappie. Wind was rough and water temp. was 57 degrees.
M. Hood - Anyone have any suggestions? I'm currently using
either a crabclaw 12 lb. anchor or a "hooker" for 16-18
ft. boat. I even tried a combo of both but I can't seem to hold
position in 4 ft. of water or less in gravel condition fishing
a windy bank. What anchor would you recommend? I normally fish
out of a Bass Tracker 16 ft. Deep V. Email an answer and we will forward it to him.
April 22, 2000 - Kingman State fishing lake was
good on Friday. Bass and pike being caught from the bank.
April 22, 2000 - Fall River - Water was
a little stained and 64 deg in the river. Clearer on the flats
and 66 degrees. Had a trip today for white bass and channel.
A combo trip. The morning was pretty slow with only a couple
of big female whites. The afternoon was pretty wonderful. Only
11 fish, but a 10,8,five 6 pounders and the rest were between
2 and 4. My client asked where the little ones were. I told him
out in the deep water. Mike Cook - Four Lake Guides
March 24, 2000 - A customer today reported anglers
had been catching some nice crappie in the heated dock at Marion
County reservoir. Up and down weather has an affect on success
however.
March 22, 2000 - Cheney
- The rains came
and the numbers went up. 2-6 pounds so far. I'm liking that Cattracker.
I'm catching them in the creeks right now. A lot of water coming
in. When they die down I'll head to the river. Mike
Cook - Four Lake Guides
February 7, 2000 - Cheney
- Ice on the lake
from Graber cove north. Tried a couple of spots for channel and
two spots for crappie. No fish. The water was sure pretty though.

(Monday, Jan. 17,
2000) - Marion
- Clark and I spent
the afternoon on the river at Marion. Crappie and white bass
were slow. Caught enough to stink up the skillet. Water was 40
deg and real pretty (clear). Fish preferred minnows over jigs
today. It's usually the other way around. See you soon,
Mike
Cook - Four Lake Guides
(Wednesday, Nov.
17, 1999) - Deb
Zeiner and Mike Cook of Four Lake Guides fished Cheney for channel
cat in the morning. They brought home a nice stringer of chanel
caught on dip bait.
(Saturday, Nov. 13,
1999) - Bass
are hitting at Big Hill according to Gene Veal. He's been there
a couple times in the last few days. Tells us that the bass are
hitting buzz baits and shallow running crankbaits close to the
shore.
(Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999) - Mike Mike Cook, Four
Lake Guides
and Terry Etheridge show off channel cat they and other anglers
Cook was guiding at Marion Reservoir over last weekend. He and
the others were using dip bait fishing from Cook's boat.
(Thursday, September
9, 1999) -Cook, Four Lake
Guides reports
that Cheney has been producing channel cat on a regular basis
since the weather broke and lower temperatures arrived. He and
his clients have been catching their fish off wind blown points.
(Monday, September 6, 1999) - Deb Zeiner and Dwayne
Deckard made the trip to Butler County State Lake Sunday morning.
Zeiner's associate Steve Ryan and customer John Jones also traveled
to the lake that's been producing bass and channel cat for area
anglers this summer. No world records were caught, but Deb reports
having a good time. Had a lot of fun fishing around the feeders
with plastic worms. Channel cat would take the worms by the tail
and hang on for a while, giving a good fight until letting go.
Wednesday, August
4, 1999) - Mike Cook of Four Lake
Guides reports
a good day in the river above Marion several days ago. He started
fishing for white bass with his clients Robert Johnson from San
Antonio and his dad. When they didn't have success with the white
bass, they decided to fish for channel cat. They caught a nice
stringer full of six to eight pound channel cat on dip bait.
The trip took an odd twist
when a raccoon that had been watching them from the bank decided
to get in the boat with them. Cook picked up the coon and tossed
him into the water. The coon swam back to the boat and climbed
in again. Once again Cook picked him up and tossed him back in
the water. Once again the coon came back and climbed in the boat
again. This time Cook tossed him on the shore. He then tossed
a stick smeared with the dip bait up on the bank to the masked
visitor. He licked the stick some, but everyone could tell he
had his heart set on the fish he saw going into the boat.
Cook said throughout the
encounters with the coon, never once did the coon try to bite
or do anything else when he picked him up.
(Saturday, July 24,
1999)
A 25-pound
striper was taken at Cheney on a Storm Big Mac earlier in the
week. Several others were caught also. Another customer reported
good results at Butler County State Lake on Bass being caught
on plastic worms. Chiggers are worse than normal this year. Be
prepared for them.
(Saturday, July 10,
1999)
Catfish continue
to dominate many of our customer's reports. However we had a
customer today that had fished Butler County State Lake all night
and had exception results on largemouth. He said the lake was
getting pretty mossy and harder to fish. Steve Ryan from our
store fished Cheney yesterday evening with one of our customers.
Both of them caught channel cat using dip baits. Earlier in the
week we had a large flathead brought into the store caught at
Lincoln Street Bridge. Today, channel were reported to be hitting
at the dam and on down stream from the bridge.
(Thursday, July 1,
1999)
Rivers are
up around most of the state. Lakes are taking the abuse of the
continued rains. People are catching fish though. Catfish are
still attracting much of the attention. Anglers fishing spillways
are enjoying success. Bass anglers may find new areas to fish
with the higher water levels. Good luck over the holiday weekend.
We will be open on Monday, July 5. We are always closed on Sundays.
We will be open regular hours (9:00-5:00) on Saturday, July 3.
(Monday, June 14,
1999)
Catfish and
largemouth dominated weekend fishing stories. Both species seem
to be active. Cheney was one of the hotter lakes over the past
week. Many customers are starting to prepare for summer fishing
trips to Canada and the northern states.
(Monday, May 31,
1999)
Sam Keys, age
8, shows off a 4lb 10oz channel cat he caught on Memorial Day
1999 on a white Swim Tail casting from a dock into weeds. His
father Phil is holding the scales. Sam says his two biggest fish
have been caught on Swim Tails. The other was a largemouth bass.
Below Sam's father Phil
shows of a small but fun to catch bass. It wasn't his largest
catch of the Memorial Day weekend, but it was the only one a
camera was available for.

When not fishing for bass,
Deb Zeiner enjoys baiting a hook with a worm and watching a bobber.
Here is her big fish of a day filled with bluegill. The carp
decided to move in for the tasty worm before some bluegill could
grab it.
