      Why Largemouth Bass Should Be
Stocked in Clinton and Perry Lakes, and How It Can Be Accomplished
On Oct. 1 and 2, 2005, Topeka received nearly 4
inches of rain and as much as 12 inches fell on areas north of
the city in Jackson and Jefferson counties. Mother Nature's deluge
washed an untold number largemouth bass into Perry Lake. Consequently,
in the spring of 2006, bass angler began catching scores of 1
12 - to six-pound bass, and that great bass fishing lasted until
May of 2007. Even during the winter of 2006-07, when the surface
temperature at Perry registered 38 degrees, some bass anglers
caught as many as 34 good-sized largemouth during a four-hour
      outing.
From this experience and similar ones in decades
past, it is obvious that a stocking program similar to the volume
that Mother Nature rendered in October of 2005 could be replicated
by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Park. Read

      FISHING FORECAST BOOSTS ANGLER

Summary helps anglers mesh personal preferences
      with most promising fishing locations
      Feb. 26, 2008 - "Where can I find the
best fishing this spring?" The Kansas Department of Wildlife
and Parks (KDWP) has the answer.
Annually, KDWP prepares a forecast of fishing prospects
in public waters throughout the state, an indispensable tool
when planning fishing trips. The 2008 Kansas Fishing Forecast
assembles results of biologists' sampling efforts into a format
that can help anglers select lakes that will most likely provide
the best opportunity to catch the kind and size of fish they

      WINTER ANGLERS TACKLE TROUT
      Stocking program allows opportunity
to take rainbow trout Oct. 15-April 15
Feb. 15, 2008 - The Kansas Department of
Wildlife and Parks' (KDWP) trout program creates a popular winter
opportunity for anglers across the state. This stocking program
provides fish at 27 sites across Kansas and affords fast action
when other fishing can be slow. Rainbow trout, native to cold
waters, can thrive in Kansas winter pools. However, after spring
warm-up, most trout cannot survive in Kansas. The exception to
this is the Mined Land Wildlife Area trout fishery near Pittsburg,
with deep waters cold enough to allow year-round trout fishing.
